Increasing Mileage

The North Country 50 Miler is less than two months away.  The team has a solid group going up, not only the 3 running, but also a good pacing crew to help them out.  Jason, Nick, and Tyler are increasing the mileage again, after having a down month or two after the spring marathon season.  Jason is back up to 80-90 miles a week, and says he wants to top out at 110 before the 50.  He has been currently working on speed in the month of June and kept his weekly mileage around 70.  Nick is finally healthy after being out because of his toe, then two weeks after coming back he sprained his ankle. He and Tyler and Jason are running 20 mile long runs again, and will be increasing that till the 50.

Looking forward to the 50 Miler

The club had a couple of runners run in the Flying Pig Marathon, congratulations to them both as one ran a 2:50 and Jason, who ran his 3rd marathon in 20 days, ran a 2:47.

Shout out to Tyler who also ran his 3rd marathon in 20 days, pacing the 3:30 group.  He is pacing another marathon in 2 weeks.

Nick, Jason, and Tyler will be running the North Country 50 miler on Aug. 24th.  We soon will begin our training for that, mostly by concentrating on back to back long runs on the weekends, 20-30 miles on Saturdays and coming back with 15-22 miles on Sundays.

Post Boston, Pre Flying Pig

Matt and Nick were not able to run so Tyler and Jason were the only two to compete for the club. Tyler ran a great race, finishing in 2:50, a new PR for him by over ten minutes. He ran a smart race as well with extremely consistent splits. Jason on the other hand had an ambitious goal of breaking 2:38 and he ran a gutsy race to try to accomplish that. His first half marathon split was a 1:18:41, but he wasn't able to maintain that pace and ended up finishing in 2:48, six minutes behind his current PR but still a solid time for him overall.

The flying Pig is this sunday and we have a couple of runners competing in that, so stay tune for that recap.

Less Than 2 Weeks

Club's training has been going well for most of us.  We have two runners tapering for Boston in two weeks, one them being Tyler coming off a huge Half-marathon PR in Lexington KY last weekend. We have a few other runners still training for the Flying pig which is three weeks after Boston this year.

Two other runners in the club that are also going to run Boston have been out of commission for three weeks now.  Matt has a stress fracture and is in a boot, Doctor say at least 4 weeks before he can run again. His four weeks is up next Monday  one week before, so hopefully he will be able to run. Nick has major Toe pain, went to the doctor and he didn't know whats wrong, he's been able to run on it, but its very painful, he says hes going to run Boston no matter what, even if he has to walk. Hopefully we can get those two running again before April 15th.

More Runs

Getting injured is never fun, however three of us had some type of pain altering our training in the last couple of weeks.  Jason has had achilles tendonitis for the last 3 weeks, but still hasn't missed a day of running.  He has cut out his morning runs for a week and has been icing it after every run.  Lowering his mileage a little for a couple of weeks has worked as he is already back up to 100 mile weeks, like a boss. Nick has been having persistent knee pain, but nothing that has kept him from running. And Matt, the speed demon on the team, twisted his foot on a run and it become badly bruised, took a day off and has been icing it, and he should be back to normal soon. Injuries happen during high mileage training, just got to listen to the pain  in order to keep running.

Boston

We are taking a team to the Boston Marathon this year.  We should be able to place very well, with two runners looking to go under 2:40 and another two not too far behind.  I think our top 3 can average under 2:40 without a problem, we'll see what happens with our training in the next couple of months....
